Illinois Government Responses to Covid-19 Updated 4/8/2020

Today’s update includes information on:

  • expected upcoming peak in cases
  • rise in number of cases and deaths

SOCIAL LIFE

  • Governor Pritzker’s stay-at-home order is currently in effect until the end of April. However, the mayor of Chicago, Lori Lightfoot, expressed on Tuesday that the virus is a long way from leaving the city of Chicago. Both Pritzker and Lightfoot have said that they are expecting a peak in the number of cases in Illinois still to come. Mayor Lightfoot encourages residents to continue social distancing, as that is the only way the state is going to continue to see progress. While both Governor Pritzker and Mayor Lightfoot would like to be optimistic, they both make it clear that it is far too early to be discussing a statewide stand-down of the stay-at-home orders.

HEALTH

  • On Tuesday, Illinois saw an additional 73 coronavirus-related deaths. This total brings the state’s number of deaths to 380. In addition, there were 1,287 more cases, bringing the statewide total to 13,549 confirmed cases in 77 of the 102 counties. As these numbers continue to rise, Pritzker has expressed no interest in lifting the current stay-at-home order.
