Messina Provides Environmental Regulatory Updates to Great Lakes Ports Association

Alec Messina will brief attendees of the American Great Lakes Ports Association’s 2025 Annual Conference on how emerging federal environmental regulations could affect their businesses.
The Association is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting the strength and viability of commercial ports throughout the U.S. Great Lakes region. Voting members are generally governmental units (state, county, or municipal) or independent agencies created by state legislation. The annual conference draws a diverse group of participants, including port managers, shipping industry leaders, maritime association representatives, and state and federal policymakers.

Messina, a partner in the firm’s Springfield office, helps craft innovative solutions to clients’ environmental problems. He spearheads the firm’s Government Affairs practice group and works with clients in HeplerBroom’s Environmental Law practice group. Prior to joining HeplerBroom, he served as Director of the Illinois EPA and had also been the Governor’s Policy Adviser for Energy and Environment.
