Hall Secures Defense Verdict in Construction Breach of Contract Case

HeplerBroom attorney Katelyn Hall

Katelyn Hall recently secured a verdict for HeplerBroom’s client in a small claims bench trial in Macoupin County, Illinois.

In 2012, Plaintiff’s home suffered smoke and fire damage. The Defendant, the only person willing to work on the home due to its condition prior to the fire, started repairs in 2012 and completed them in mid-2013. In 2017, Plaintiff filed a consumer complaint with the Attorney General’s Office, which was dismissed for lack of evidence. Among the Plaintiff’s numerous allegations in small claims court were that Defendant was paid for but did not replace a storm door in summer 2013. However, Hall introduced evidence from Google Earth images that showed the home had a brand-new storm door in perfect condition in October 2013.

Hall, an associate in the firm’s Springfield office, specializes in civil litigation. She also has experience handling mediations and negotiations. Hall earned her M.J. and J.D. from Michigan State University College of Law. She also holds a B.A. in History and Philosophy from St. Norbert College. She is licensed to practice in Illinois and is admitted to the bars of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central, and Southern Districts of Illinois.
