HeplerBroom Successfully Defends Favorable Jury Verdict on Appeal

HeplerBroom has successfully defended a favorable jury verdict in the Illinois Appellate Court, First District, in a case where the jury awarded plaintiffs $40,000 instead of the $3 million they sought. The case involved an unusual cause of action that rarely goes to trial. (More details about that trial are available on our website: Moch, Fay, and Mucci Secure Significantly Reduced Award in Jury Trial in Cook County.)
Plaintiffs argued they were deprived of a fair trial based on alleged in limine violations, erroneous evidentiary rulings, improper jury instructions, and the trial court’s refusal to strike two jurors for cause. The appellate court rejected those arguments and found the trial court did not err in denying the post-trial relief.
The appeal was briefed and argued by Irina Dmitrieva, a partner in HeplerBroom’s Chicago office who has more than 20 years of success in federal and state appellate courts representing both private clients and governmental entities.
