Illinois Appellate Court Upholds HeplerBroom Clients Right to Recover Attorney Fees

After five years of hard-fought litigation, an Illinois appellate court upheld a circuit court ruling that HeplerBroom’s clients were entitled to recover their attorney fees. The opinion included fees for both the original circuit court case and the fees incurred in litigating the appeal. The case involved a Wage Payment Act and Prevailing Wage Act matter. HB attorneys Lance Jones, Julieta Kosiba, and Charles Insler handled the case.

Insler, a partner in the firm’s St. Louis office, concentrates his practice on appellate work, as well as complex commercial litigation, including the defense of cybersecurity, antitrust, and securities litigation. He is currently a member of the ABA’s Forum on Communications Law and speaks and writes regularly on cybersecurity issues. He is licensed to practice in Missouri, Illinois, and the District of Columbia and is admitted to the bars of the U.S. Courts of Appeals for the Seventh and Eighth Circuits and the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern District of Missouri, the Southern District of Illinois, and the Districts of Maryland and Columbia.

Jones, an Attorney of Counsel in the firm’s Springfield office, is a trial attorney with a primary emphasis in litigation, particularly employment matters. He has argued cases before the Illinois Supreme Court, Illinois Appellate Court, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit, as well as a number of Illinois administrative venues. Jones has been named an Illinois Leading Lawyer by Law Bulletin Media and is a former recipient of IDOT’s Award of Merit for Professional Excellence.

Kosiba, an associate attorney who also works for the firm’s Springfield office, focuses her practice on the defense of civil litigation matters. In addition to defending clients in employment-related lawsuits, she assists HB’s employment and labor team in drafting employee handbooks and other employment-related documents and counseling clients on employment issues. Kosiba is licensed to practice in Illinois and is admitted in the U.S. District Courts for the Central and Southern Districts of Illinois.
