Alec Messina will be a featured speaker at the December 6 “Understanding Environmental Justice” webinar sponsored by the Regulatory Environmental Group for Missouri (REGFORM). The half-day seminar, which is being held via Zoom, will include discussion of topics such as how environmental justice policies currently impact state and federal environmental programs, the impact of emerging environmental justice policy developments on state and local agencies, what environmental justice means for the regulated community, and what organizations can do now and in the long term.

Messina is a partner in the firm’s Springfield office and a member of its Environmental Law practice team. In addition, he spearheads the firm’s Government Affairs practice group. Prior to joining HeplerBroom, he served as Director of the Illinois EPA and was the Illinois Governor’s Policy Adviser on Energy and Environment. Previously, he had been Chief Legal Counsel for the Illinois EPA and General Counsel for the Office of State Fire Marshal.
